Our Purpose

Supporting health and wellbeing through radio

WWL Radio’s charitable objectives guide every broadcast we produce. We are here to relieve sickness, poor health and isolation by bringing companionship, information and encouragement across Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh.

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Our charitable objects

The objects of WWL Radio are:

  • The relief of sickness, poor health and old age amongst people living in Wigan and its surrounding areas by providing a local broadcasting service for hospitals, residential homes and similar institutions, and for patients receiving community care; and
  • The advancement of health and prevention or relief of sickness for the public benefit through the promotion of the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle, and the importance of maintaining good personal mental and physical health by (mainly, but not exclusively) the means of broadcasting health education messages to people living in Wigan and its surrounding areas.

How we deliver our purpose

Our volunteers visit wards, connect with patients and curate shows that offer comfort, entertainment and helpful health advice. We collaborate with NHS colleagues, community partners and supporters to ensure WWL Radio is available wherever it’s needed.

By providing round-the-clock radio tailored to the hospital environment, we help reduce feelings of isolation, support recovery and share the latest wellbeing information. Every dedication, request and story strengthens our link with the community we serve.
